Bloomsburg Softball Loses Doubleheader to Kutztown

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University softball team dropped two games to Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. The Golden Bears downed the Huskies 3-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
In game one, Kutztown used three hits and a walk combined with a Huskies' error to jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
In the fourth inning, the Huskies got one back when Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY /James Madison) singled to lead off the inning and was doubled home by Stacy Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton). Bloomsburg would score once more in the sixth inning off of a single from Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) that scored Krupiewski to make the score 3-2.
The Huskies threatened in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to score and Kutztown took game one by a score of 3-2.
Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) went seven innings for the Huskies, striking out 10 batters while allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and walking four. Corliss finished 2-3 with an RBI.
In the second game, Bloomsburg broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) led off the inning with a single and then Alyssa English (Wallacetown /Phillipsburg-Osceola) hit a two-run homerun to give the Huskies the 2-0 lead.
Kutztown got one run back in the top of the fourth and then put together a four-run sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Huskies loaded the bases in the sixth and then had a runner on in the seventh but the Golden Bears held on for the 5-2 win.
With the two losses, the Huskies fell to 21-8, 7-3 in the PSAC East while Kutztown improved their record to 30-13 overall and a division best 13-1 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg is back in action on Tuesday at home against East Stroudsburg for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader that was rescheduled from Friday.
